“Nobody’s Dreaming” By Cloud | Review

Forget slow builds, everyone claims they do slow builds. Cloud actually pulls it off.

“Nobody’s Dreaming” is out now, and it spends its opening seconds doing almost nothing, a synth line, some air, barely a pulse. Then it starts stacking harmonics on top of harmonics until the whole thing tips over into something enormous, and you are left wondering how a song this patient ended up feeling this big.

Here is the thing about Cloud: he is not interested in the obvious anthem move. No shouted hooks, no chorus screaming for a festival singalong. Instead you get tension, restraint, a sense that something massive is happening just under the surface without anyone bothering to point at it. It works. Honestly it works better than half the tracks currently begging for your attention on the radio.

And Cloud has earned the right to be patient. Based in Japan, somehow pulling 80% of his 160,000 plus Spotify plays from listeners in the States, which is no small feat when America barely notices its own underground let alone someone cutting through from the other side of the planet. “Overdrive” already banked 120,000 plays on its own steam. Two tracks have made it to mainstream radio, over 100 Western outlets have covered him, and he has been in the studio with Luis and Alex building whatever comes next.

“Nobody’s Dreaming” is the payoff. Put it on now, and do not expect it to ask nicely for your attention. It will just take it.
