Here at Hear Pop, while we’re primarily a pop publication, reggae has always held a special place in our hearts, so when GrooveGalore MuziK announced their take on Whitesnake’s “Is This Love,” I knew we had to dive in. This isn’t your typical cover version, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it so captivating.
Paul “GrooveGalore” Kastick has done something remarkable here. Instead of simply adding a reggae beat to a rock classic, he’s completely reimagined the entire structure while keeping the soul of what made the original so beloved. From the moment those Caribbean rhythms kick in, you know you’re experiencing something entirely different yet familiar.
What really impressed me about this release is how seamlessly it bridges worlds that shouldn’t work together but absolutely do. KASTICK’s vocal delivery carries serious emotional weight, bringing a raw intensity that honors David Coverdale’s original while making it completely his own. Then Cen’C Love comes in with these harmonies that elevate everything to another level entirely.
The production quality here is outstanding. Josh Gold’s mix at The Basement Studio in Boston gives every element room to breathe, from those thunderous drums to the soaring synths. You can feel the influences ranging from Bob Marley to Van Halen weaving through the track, creating this vibrant fusion that somehow feels both nostalgic and fresh.
As someone who appreciates how reggae can transform any genre, I’m genuinely excited about what GrooveGalore MuziK brings to the table. This cover proves that great music transcends boundaries, and when done with this level of creativity and respect for both source materials, the results can be truly special.
